A Powerball ticket sold in Oregon has clinched the massive jackpot prize, surpassing $1.3 billion, making it the eighth-largest jackpot in U.S. history. The winning numbers drawn on Sunday were: 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, and the Powerball 9. This drawing marks the 41st since the last jackpot winner on New Year’s Day.
The fortunate winner managed to match all six double-digit numbers on a $2 ticket, defying the odds of one in 292.2 million. Consequently, the jackpot has been rolling over, growing larger with each draw.
The lottery drawing, scheduled initially for 11 p.m. EDT on Saturday, was postponed to ensure all necessary procedures were completed before announcing the winning numbers.
The grand prize, estimated at around $1.3 billion, offers two options for the winner: a single lump sum of approximately $608.9 million or an initial payment followed by 29 annual installments.
Powerball tickets are available for purchase in 45 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
